What we do

The Old Tamensians Association was first formed in 1909 as a means of maintaining the esprit de corps that existed at the school. During the late 1800s there had been an Association of Old Boys but that had petered out. On the 10th March 1908, eighteen old boys met at the Holborn Restaurant, London. They included the then current headmaster Dr Shaw, three former masters, three of the four Kislingburys, four of the five Sims, G.E. Shrimpton and E.L. Stroud. The following year, the OTA was formally established at the begining of 1909. Within a few weeks of its inception the membership stood at  45. Since then it has continued to thrive, thousands have joined, and today it is a flourishing Association open to everyone who has studied at or been on the staff of the School.

1. The prime purpose of the OTA is to ensure that students and staff can stay in touch with the School and one another. The OTA has an extensive web-site that is updated frequently with news of the School and members; e-mail updates are sent out monthly, and two hard copy newsletters are published annually.

2. Organises OT matches v the School in rugby, netball, hockey, soccer and cricket (and any others if a team can be formed.)

3. Organises an annual OTs golf tournament.

4. Organises Founder's Day: the Church Service, AGM, lunch, matches and tea etc.

5. Helps organise Year Group reunions.

6. Holds an open reunion at the annual Spring Lunch.

7. Provides trustees for the John Hampden War Memorial Fund.

8. Supports the School in any way it can, including fund-raising activities.

9. Sells OTA scarves, blazer badges, ties, rugby shirts and books.

10. Now helping to organise the 450-year celebration of the School's founding and 100 years of the OTA. This will include a Gala Dinner.

A Committee meets thrice yearly; a warm welcome is extended to everyone who might wish to join it so that we can continue to make the OTA relevant for today's students.
